Rick Roethke’s decades-long commitment to real estate education and leadership was recently recognized at one of Indiana University’s premier alumni events. On April 30, Rick received a distinguished award during the IU Real Estate Alumni and Friends Awards Dinner & Banquet, held at the beautiful Newfields Indianapolis Museum of Art.
The award honored Rick’s role as a founder of the Center for Real Estate Studies, his service as an Advisory Board member, and more than 20 years of contributions to the Center. His impact has helped shape opportunities for students, alumni, and professionals connected to Indiana University’s real estate program over the years.
The evening also served as a retirement celebration for Doug McCoy, longtime director of the Center for Real Estate Studies. While the event recognized Doug’s leadership and legacy, it also highlighted the many individuals whose dedication helped build the Center into what it is today — including Rick.
In a fun full-circle moment shared during the event, attendees learned that Doug McCoy was once Rick’s intern many years ago. What began as a mentorship eventually evolved into two careers that would both leave lasting marks on the Center for Real Estate Studies.
The setting at Newfields added an elegant backdrop to an evening focused on achievement, mentorship, and the importance of investing in future generations of real estate professionals. Friends, alumni, colleagues, and supporters gathered to celebrate not only professional accomplishments, but also the relationships and mentorships that have shaped the program over decades.
Photos from the award presentation were captured during the evening, commemorating a well-deserved recognition for Rick’s years of service and leadership.
After more than two decades of dedication, Rick’s recognition serves as a reminder that lasting impact is often built quietly over time — through leadership, mentorship, and a commitment to helping others succeed.
